Introduction
Until recently, grassroots women's knowledge has been difficult to share. The women were isolated by distance, time, poverty, language, oral tradition, technology, and gender, among other things. The Huairou Commission, recognizing the value of grassroots women's local development knowledge and determined to create opportunities for it to be shared among grassroots groups, policy makers, advocacy groups and institutions is investing in the collection, generation and distribution of grassroots knowledge.

Thus Huairou has been a strong supporter of the knowledge generating programs of Grassroots Women's International Academy and OUR Practices. In addition, Huairou authors routinely draw on grassroots women's accounts to write formal papers for institutional and scholarly use. Huairou will continue to build a Resource Center that will serve grassroots organizations, development professionals and all who partner in sustainable development.
