Campaigns: Resilience | AIDs | Land | Governance

Context
The international community turns more and more attention to creating “cultures of peace.” Since grassroots women, particularly as mothers and homemakers, are culture carriers, their voices are crucial to a full assessment of their community’s heritage, evaluation of its needs and development of a peace culture.

Huairou member organizations in Central America, the former Yugoslavia and in Eastern Africa have experience in recovery from conflict. Since, they have yet to share documentation, exchange practices, evaluate processes, initiate pilot programs and propose policies, they are unable to contribute to the international peace building process as fully as possible.

In launching this campaign, Huairou affirms the centrality of grassroots women’s participation in peace building and commits itself to the strengthening of their influence in the construction of cultures of peace.

In most of the world, women are primary caretakers of families.  The MDGs are what they work towards every day. Conflict wipes away their achievements.
